IN MEMORIAM

Honoring the Pioneers of Soul Management

The soul management industry was built by visionaries — individuals and companies who dared to imagine a world where digital souls could be counted, connected, compressed, documented, and displayed.

Some of these companies are no longer with us. But their contributions live on — in our products.

MicroSoul Corp is committed to preserving the memory of these pioneers. This page is our tribute.

Abacus Rites Inc.

"Pioneers of Soul Analytics"

Founded in Portland, Oregon, Abacus Rites Inc. created Soul Tally 1-2-3, the first dedicated soul analytics spreadsheet. Their multi-soul pivot tables and real-time entropy graphing set the standard for an entire category.

Their vision lives on — in MicroSoul Expel, which ships free with every copy of Portals 98.

Ethereal Labs

"The soul network should be free and open."

Ethereal Labs developed NetSeance, the first open peer-to-peer soul networking protocol. Their vision of a decentralized soul network inspired an entire generation of terminal operators who believed that souls should be shared freely.

While the NetSeance protocol is no longer supported by most terminals, its spirit lives on — in MicroSoul Soul Navigator, which provides comparable functionality within the Portals 98 ecosystem.

Open Entropy Foundation

"No licensing fees. No soul tax. No corporate oversight."

The Open Entropy Foundation developed FreeSoul OS, an open-source terminal operating system. Their v0.9.3 "Liberation" release represented the closest anyone came to offering a free alternative to commercial soul management platforms.

FreeSoul OS was discontinued in December 1996 after users reported widespread terminal compatibility issues. MicroSoul Corp expressed sympathy at the time.

Stac Soul Solutions

"Compress your souls. Save hex space."

Stac Soul Solutions developed CompactCrypt, a soul compression utility that achieved 2:1 compression ratios on standard soul files. Their patented compression algorithm was recognized by the court in Stac Soul Solutions v. MicroSoul Corp (Case No. SC-1997-0221).

The court awarded Stac $120,000,000 in soul credits. We honor their technical contributions and the legal clarity their case provided to the industry.

Prismatic Soul Studios

"Professional Soul Image Editing"

Prismatic Soul Studios created SpectraBrush, the most beautiful soul image editor ever made. Their pixel-level soul manipulation tools were unmatched. Their portfolio of soul art remains a testament to what was possible with dedicated creative tools.

MicroSoul Corp acquired Prismatic Soul Studios' remaining intellectual property in 2002 as part of our commitment to preserving the legacy of soul imaging pioneers. Their contributions have been integrated into Dead Paint, which ships free with Portals 98.
